El Gato Recommends: Pressed Juice, Senior Boxes, and More

Pressed Juice:

Looking for a “healthier” alternative to my sweet treat addiction, I happened to stumble upon the Pressed Juicery freeze. Made from only seven ingredients, this sorbet-like frozen yogurt is creamy, smooth, and not overly sweet. Your order includes three toppings, everything from chocolate chips to sliced almonds to fresh fruit, which I take full advantage of (and highly recommend you do too). Sure, it’s not quite as decadent as Dolce Spazio’s gelato, but it hits the spot and can satisfy a sweet tooth, as it has mine (for the last three days in a row).

Senior Boxes:

As senior year may be far away for some and a reality for others, there is one quality that all students share: nostalgia for their few remaining childhood years. Senior boxes are a great way to preserve high school memories and tokens, while being neither obtrusive nor cumbersome. They are wooden boxes that you can decorate with pictures and drawings and then use as a container for memorable objects from your senior year, such as dance tickets and concert wristbands. Not only does this allow you to remember your memories tangibly, but it also provides a fun activity for you and your friends to do together as you reflect upon your past, present, and future.

Journaling:

Calling all D1 Yappers! If you’ve ever chatted a friend’s ear off about your psychological theories or had a long-winded debate with an imaginary friend, you’re not weird; you just need someone (or someTHING) to talk to. Behold the journal: your untrained therapist, gossip buddy, accountability partner, and catch-all for anything your brain cooks up. Whether you’re an artist like Greg Heffley or a poet like me, your journal is the place for your inner expression to shine. Write down those secrets you aren’t allowed to tell anyone! Draw pictures of the items on your grocery list! The possibilities are endless, and it’s entirely up to you how often and how much you share with your clothbound companion. Gone are the days of boring your peers; say hello to the journaling revival!

Beli app:

Are you utterly sick and tired of the same old restaurants, but you can’t seem to find anything new? Is the classic Yelp search not working as well as it used to? Look no further than the app Beli. Beyond just offering restaurant reviews, Beli provides personalized recommendations, creates featured lists, and allows you to share favorites with others. As a relatively new app, its options are few in smaller towns like Los Gatos, but it still offers plenty of suggestions. If you ever take a trip to a big city such as San Francisco or New York, be sure to use Beli to discover new places to eat.
