Past El Gato Staff: 2017-2018
Staff Advisor- Doug Garrett
Editors-in-Chief – Dana Cook, Jordan Evans, Cole van Miltenburg, and Lauren Sanders
Dana Cook is a senior at LGHS this year and one of its four Editor-in-Chiefs. She spends her time actively obsessing over dogs, doing pilates in a hundred degree room with a bunch of moms, and shopping at Whole Foods, all of which point to the fact that yes, she’s gluten free.
The guiding lights in Jordan’s life are the jokes on popsicle sticks, the user’s manual for her Volkswagen Beetle, and Mambo No. 5.
Cole van Miltenburg is a senior at LGHS and an El Gato Editor-in-Chief for the 2017-18 school year. He is known for his enthusiasm for boba, passion for all things Model UN, and, most importantly, his one year reign as El Gato’s slither.io champion. Outside of school, you can catch him hitting up his favorite boba spots (Monster Boba and Teaspoon), binge-watching episodes of The Office and Arrested Development, or struggling to hit a ball during tennis practice.
Lauren is an Editor-in-Chief for El Gato News. She can do many things decently, including but not limited to playing the Peruvian pan flute and drowning for fun. Ask her about her dogs.
Public Relations Editors – Abbi Berry and Bradley Adams
Senior Abbi Berry is more than excited to be finishing her third and final year as a veteran PR editor. She enjoys spending her time in the back of the class, usually finishing her lunch and most likely working on other homework. This year, she looks forward to posting accurate Spirit Rally stats and graduating.
Senior Bradley Adams is excited for his second year on El Gato’s staff as a Public Relations Manager. You can typically find him at the Los Gatos Swim and Racquet Club coaching, lifeguarding, or teaching swim lessons. He enjoys photography, adventuring, and hanging out with friends.
News Editors – Henry Lamb, Austin Yung, and Sophie Kroesche
Henry is a senior. This is his first year on El Gato and he will be editing the News section. He plays basketball for the boys varsity team and enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Austin is a sophomore in El Gato for the first time. In his free time he enjoys the art of cooking rice one grain at a time.
Sophie Kroesche is a junior at Los Gatos High School and can’t wait for her second year in the El Gato lab. Sophie is an aspiring artist with an insane kombucha addiction and has plans to become a hiking guide in the Swiss Alps during her midlife crisis. After field hockey practice, she enjoys binging numerous HBO shows and listening to jazz as she starts her latest project. Whenever she can catch a moment of free time, Sophie is either gardening, chilling with her cat, or hiking with her friends.
National Editor – Sam Zukin
Senior Sam Zukin is proud to be a senior this year as the lone National editor. He enjoys playing tennis and going geocaching. He takes delight in discussing politics and religion at the dinner table. He is an avid watcher of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead and wishes that they could come to life. Sam looks forward to his last year of high school!
Editorial Editor – John Field
Senior John Field is coming back for his second year in El Gato, ready to enjoy many more delicious press week treats. That’s really why he’s here in the first place. Oh, and he’ll write some articles too, of course.
Opinion Editors – Reegan McClusky and Madeline Pollock
Junior Reegan McCluskey joins the El Gato staff this year as an Opinion Editor. She enjoys playing field hockey, volleyball, and going on morning hikes. On rare occasions Reegan has free time, which she will most likely spend watching Netflix or talking with her friends from San Diego.
Madeline Pollock is a junior at LGHS. As a current Opinion Editor, this is her second year writing on the El Gato staff. When Madeline isn’t online shopping, she rides her horse, plays lacrosse, and runs her own company. She loves fashion, anything pink, Kate Spade and Legally Blonde. Madeline is a twin who dreams of traveling to Paris.
World Editors – Andy Braham and Eden Gibson
Andy is a junior and a World Editor on El Gato this year. He enjoys walking, eating, sleeping, and other essential human activities. He quite honestly does not do well outside of structured, manual tasks. This is his second year of writing morally objectionable pieces for the Opinion section.
Junior Eden Gibson is thrilled for her first year on the El Gato staff! Although soccer consumes most of her time, she spends her off days listening to 80’s hits, playing with her cats, and watching Netflix for an unhealthy length of time. She lives for beach sunsets, chocolate cake, and afternoon naps. Writing is one of her biggest passions!
Center Editor – Ashley Hagar
Junior Ashley Hagar is El Gato’s current Center Editor. This is her second year on staff as she was previously a Culture Editor. If she’s not in the kitchen whipping up a cake or a batch of cookies, she might be seen playing soccer for her club team or running and jumping for the school track and field team. In her free time, Ashley enjoys spending time with friends and family, but most of all loves to eat pretzels as she rewatches episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.
Culture Editors – Gabrielle Pollock and Jamie Blough
Gabrielle Pollock is a junior at LGHS, and this is her second year on El Gato’s Staff, this year serving as a Culture Editor. She loves exotic fashion, animals, and pop music. In her free time she enjoys playing lacrosse, riding her horse Hawk, playing piano, and doing yoga. You’ll most likely find Gabrielle at the barn or blasting country music in her room. When Gabrielle’s not at Jamba Juice, she’s working diligently with her sister and best friend on their company, The AG Sisters. She desperately wants to be a mermaid, but will be plenty satisfied if she ends up living in San Francisco with an abundance of animals and traveling the world.
Jamie Blough is a sophomore and this is her first year on El Gato. She is a Culture Editor, alongside neighbor and friend Gabrielle Pollock. She loves her horse, Rán, and spends most of her time at the barn or at rehearsals with her theater company, LGYT. When she’s not at school or with her crazy friends, you can find her belting showtunes in her room and hoping her dad can’t hear her from across the house. You can also expect to see her petting her overweight dog or attempting to play some version of the piano.
Humor Editors – Shannon Enriquez and Tatum Jenkins
Senior Shannon Enriquez attempts to salvage her high school career by participating in El Gato this year as a Humor Editor. When she is not at school you can find her on the soccer field, though it’s not difficult to find her as she is immensely tall. Though this is Shannon’s first and last year on El Gato, she hopes to continue her passion of journalism throughout college and her future.
Tatum is a junior at LGHS and this is her second year on the El Gato staff. She loves going on hikes that she regrets when she’s lost hours later, and she enjoys reading anything and everything. When she’s not doing school and/or El Gato things, she can be found screaming at the TV while she watches Game of Thrones and having dance parties alone in her room.
People Editors – Thomas Petroff and Hayley Knowlton
Thomas Petroff is a junior at LGHS and a People Editor for El Gato this year. This is his second year on staff, and he is game for everything. You will most likely find Thomas playing dunk-hoops after school with his friends or taking some shots on the soccer field because sports are his thing. When it comes to his free time, Thomas enjoys rewatching only the best episodes from The Office and chilling out with his dog Kobe.
Hayley Knowlton, senior and newbie People Editor, is very excited to serve her first and last year on El Gato. Her greatest accomplishments include having watched both The Office and Lost seven times (each) and being able to finish an entire box of Annie’s White Cheddar Mac and Cheese in groundbreaking time. She has the answers to all the world’s largest questions, including the way to properly spoon a cat, the technique for creating a flawless grilled cheese sandwich, and, of course, what kind of mac and cheese is the best kind of mac and cheese.
Sports Editors – Ryan Manseau, Madeline King, and Nate White
Ryan Manseau is a football player at Los Gatos High, as well as an El Gato sports editor. He enjoys sushi and long walks on the beach. In his free time you can find him watching sports or playing with his cats.
Madeline King is a sophomore at LGHS and a newbie Sports Editor. When she isn’t getting strange tan lines from playing water polo or lacrosse, she loves cooking, petting dogs, and watching food documentaries. Madeline is also an avid supporter of socks with sandals and daily naps.
Nate White is a junior at Los Gatos High School, and this will be his first year on the El Gato Staff. He plays football, basketball, and golf for the Wildcats, and his favorite TV show is “The Office.”
Graphics Editors – Katherine Monsef and Sami Linden
Some know her as Keith, Kat, Kerth, or even her real name: Katherine Monsef. She is a woman of clumsiness and unlucky tendencies. This year, she will continue to draw the second-best graphics featured in the paper. Some of her best include upgraded versions of a stick figure or a nice star. Besides long walks on the beach, she enjoys field hockey, lacrosse, and day-to-day battles with natural selection.
Junior Sami Linden is excited to join El Gato as a Graphics Editor. If you see her around at school, chances are you’ll find her wearing something from Patagonia while trying to convince her friends that climbing rocks is a legitimate sport. When she’s not clinging to the side of a boulder, she usually follows her brother on long hikes, tends to her copious number of succulents, or complains about how her fingers bled too much at the last rock climbing practice.
Media Production Editors – Dominic Dal Porto, Erin Grasty, Connor Holland, Chloe Mendoza, and Matthew White
Dominic Dal Porto is an absolute Kopite of a senior. A true Manchester United fanboy, he specializes in being American and lacking the ability to point out Manchester on a map. This is his first year in El Gato, working almost exclusively in video production. Dal Porto is an absolute monstrosity on the soccer field, playing for club and school teams this year. He strives to keep his BRBC (Blood Red-Bull Concentration) at a constant 2%, and work to produce content for El Gato and improve his game on the pitch.
Junior Erin Grasty faces the most physically and emotionally demanding endeavor yet: her second year in El Gato. This Media Production Editor pushes herself to complete cross country workouts, make batches of slime with her younger sister, and create a new Spotify playlist while also make sure to leave enough time for a few Netflix episodes before bed.
Senior Connor Holland is a first-time El Gatan. He enjoys the occasional bubble bath and romantic comedies.
Chloe Mendoza, a dog-enthusiast and first-time El Gatan, is in her senior year at Los Gatos High School. Her special skills include having memorized every Harry Potter spell in alphabetical order and being able to sneeze eleven times in a row. She likes her friends and shrimp, but mostly making people uncomfortable with her bad puns.
Matthew is a redshirt junior at Los Gatos High School and this is his first year on El Gato’s staff. Matt enjoys going to the beach with his friends and family. He also plays football, basketball and golf for the high school.
