The long-awaited boys’ volleyball season returns, ramping up to full speed with tournaments and scrimmages to prepare them for their upcoming season. Last year, the Boys’ Varsity Volleyball Team placed second in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) with an overall record of 11-4 in play. For the first time in Los Gatos High School’s history, the varsity team qualified for the Open Division for Central Coast Section (CCS) play. After a 1-3 loss to Santa Cruz High School, the Wildcats transitioned to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Norcals, where they lost in the quarterfinals. After a successful high school season, the varsity team reflected on their performance and began focusing on how they could improve and grow stronger for the next season. Returning player senior Sean Slover received SCVAL All-League First Team and Junior of the Year, and senior Reily Nguyen earned All-League Second Team for the 2025 winter season. Now, both players are team captains and will lead their team to a thriving season, using what they have learned from the previous season to continue improving.

At the Harbor High School Tournament, the varsity team placed first in the silver bracket. Freshman Andrew Jin claimed that much of their early-season success has been due to their coaches, Nicole Ciari, Morgan Iverson, and Aylene Ilkson, as they are “Very supportive and give great feedback.” The boys’ volleyball team played San Lorenzo Valley High School, claiming victory both times with scores of 2-0 and 2-1. They also defeated Scotts Valley 2–1 and Morro Bay 2–0, showcasing their dominance, with their only loss coming in a 0–2 match against Archbishop Mitty. Jin commented, “It took a few games to get into our groove since it was the first time we played together outside of practice and scrimmages. After that, we found our momentum.” Furthermore, Junior Marc Del Prado Garcia added, “It was tough. There’s a lot of good teams there, but we did our best.”

Now, the Boys’ Varsity Volleyball Team is focusing on their chemistry as they learn to play with different individuals, especially since league play is around the corner. Del Prado Garcia asserted, “So far we have taken many measures to ensure that we communicate well with one another.” All of the team members agree that winning the league and transitioning to claiming wins in the regional matches is crucial to their accepted idea of what they want to achieve. The Wildcats plan to cause numerous upsets this year, aiming to be recognized as one of the league’s top teams. Be sure to cheer on Los Gatos Boys’ Volleyball team as they take on their upcoming season with determination!
