As spring sports begin their seasons at LGHS, the Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team is looking forward to pushing past the barriers it faced last season. With a fresh roster filled with new players eager to support their team, the group is already off to a strong start this year.

With tryouts ending a few weeks ago, Head Coach Justin Stenger is working hard to prepare his team for the tough tennis season ahead. Commenting on expectations for the first matches of the year, Stenger shared, “I’m excited to see the team compete in these first few matches and get a sense of the impact we can have this season. We have a couple of new faces who are strong players and have raised the level of the group.” Senior captain Ethan Beale shared a common goal with his teammates: to win the league, an accomplishment the boys’ team has come just short of in the last three seasons. Starting the season with lots of training and practice to build team camaraderie, the boys’ team is putting in the work to perform well in their first matches of the year.

With the spring tennis season just beginning, the LGHS boys are completing their first matches against familiar league rivals. In the team’s first match, the Los Gatos players faced Fremont High School. The boys won the match 7-0, beginning the season with a dominant win over another league competitor. Sophomore Alexander Fador had an impressive win in line three singles, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-3. Another noteworthy victory, applauded by his teammates, was sophomore Omri Manor in line four singles, who decisively won his match 6-1, 6-0.

In the second match of the season, the team faced off against Wilcox High School. The team won the match decisively 7-0. Fador had another impressive win at line 3 singles, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-1. In response to the positive start to the season, Stenger shared, “We are going to show up and compete at a high level each match this season. This team wants to go far, and we are going to make it happen.” The energy and commitment brought to the court during the varsity team’s first two matches exhibit their excitement for the coming season. With dominant wins so far, the new roster showed a promising start to the season.

Over the next couple of weeks, the Los Gatos tennis team will settle into their match schedule, competing multiple times a week and reflecting on their results at team practices. The boys’ team will hold their matches on Tuesdays and Thursdays and compete at LGHS once a week. Focusing on team bonding and assigning goals for the season, the boys’ tennis team is eager to begin its year.
