After a successful 2025 season, the Girls’ and Boys’ LGHS Lacrosse Teams are preparing for another eventful year. The players participating in the lacrosse program have been consistently training throughout the off-season and are ecstatic to return to the field.

Both teams started the year, wasting no time in enhancing their skills during pre-season. Players engaged in weekly weight training sessions and intense practice, which included sprints to increase stamina and various weightlifting exercises to help with strength and technique. Girls’ Varsity Captain Kirra Bannon explained, “Pre-season is really good to get everyone’s stick back in their hands and stay active. It really helps in the long run for the season, making us stronger and developing our skills.” With this extensive process, the teams have seen immense improvement and growth in their overall gameplay. As a result, the lacrosse program will undoubtedly thrive throughout this season.

The varsity girls are starting the season fresh, under a new coaching staff, including head coach Madeline Trimpi and assistant coach Tom Bissaillon. In their first pre-season game, they faced strong opponents, such as Sacred Heart Prep and Archbishop Mitty High School, where the Wildcats fell 0-19 and 5-17. The losses have only fueled the girls’ determination to work harder, as the team is focused on developing its defense and maintaining a positive mindset. Bannon added, “This year, I hope we strengthen everyone’s defense, no matter their position.”

Additionally, for the 2026 season, the lacrosse program has been working on building its team chemistry through bonding activities, practices, and conditioning. Reflecting on this, junior goalkeeper Sydney Wilson elaborated, “The team dynamic is really positive and supportive. Everyone works hard, but we also have a lot of fun and goofy moments together, which makes practices and games a really good environment.”

The Boys’ Lacrosse Team has experienced challenging competition in pre-season as well. Although the team suffered some tough losses against Menlo Atherton High School 8-1 and Saint Francis High School 16-3, they have also had some exciting wins. The Wildcats beat Pacific Grove High School 11-1 and Carmel High School 12-1, with the top scorers including senior Ben Reilly, sophomore Justin Buran, and freshman Matvey Barkhatov. The varsity team is looking forward to replicating their successful 2025 season, where they earned the opportunity to play in the Central Coast Section (CCS) finals.

With challenging off-season training, tough pre-season games, and encouraging mindsets, the lacrosse program is ready to fulfill its goals for the 2026 season. The LG Lacrosse Teams will play on Mar. 16th on Helm Field. Come support your fellow Wildcats!
