The Los Gatos High School Baseball Team is off to an exciting start in the 2025-2026 season, carrying strong early momentum as the Wildcats move from preseason play into the De Anza League. After showcasing explosive offense in pre-season games and learning from their first defeat, the varsity and junior varsity (JV) teams appear well-positioned for a competitive run this year.

Varsity holds a 2–1 overall record and enters De Anza League play with a 0–0 league slate. They are tied for first in the preseason standings with Wilcox High School, based on last year’s results and returning talent. Their pre-season schedule got off to a strong start in the Battle for Atherton Tournament with a 12-1 win over Menlo-Atherton on Feb. 25. The Wildcats followed that performance with a 12-4 win over Menlo High School, showcasing explosive offense by totaling 27 runs in those three games. The team’s winning streak came to an end on Feb. 28 with a loss against Junipero Serra High School, a tough competitor. Players described the defeat was a wake-up call, with varsity player Joshua Carlisle admitting, “We didn’t play our best game against them, but it showed us where we need to focus and improve.”

Talent is just as important as the team’s chemistry. Both varsity and JV credit their strong friendships for improved performance. “We all hang out outside of baseball, and it really makes a difference when we step on the field. We play for each other, not just for ourselves,” said Lucas Bottoms, a sophomore on JV.

Looking ahead, the Wildcats know future play will be tough. Junipero Serra, one of the team’s biggest rivals, could make a reappearance in the Central Coast Section playoffs, but with confidence in their depth, batting lineup, and team spirit, the Los Gatos baseball team is ready to meet any challenge.

Several players have already stepped up early in the season and are making a noticeable impact on the field. Carlisle has been a reliable presence in the infield, contributing precise hits and strong defense in Los Gatos’s early wins. In the 12-4 victory over Menlo School, Rowen Smith, a senior on varsity, delivered critical hits that drove in runs during key rallies. With contributions up and down the lineup, the Wildcats have established a strong foundation to build on as De Anza league games continue.

The Wildcats will look to carry this momentum forward as the season progresses. With a mix of talent, depth, and passion, the Los Gatos High School Baseball team is shaping up to be a season to remember. They are showing that baseball is not only about winning or losing; it is also about unity and friendship.
