Every year, members of the LGHS faculty gather to rehearse and perform in Fractured Follies, a show with funny skits, dance numbers, the LGHS teacher band, and lots of fun. With the show fast approaching, staff and students are preparing and getting ready for an amazing night.

LGHS teacher Kim Burlinson has been performing in the show for [INSERT YEARS HERE]. She commented that her favorite aspect of being a part of Fractured Follies is “the energy we get from each other and the energy we get back from the kids. Every year I say that I’m too tired and busy and won’t do it this year, and then [Paris DeSoto] puts it out there, and I’m like, ‘I have to do this, it’s so fun.’” She explained her favorite moments of past shows: “[Mollie Hicock-Parker] was Weird Barbie in the show last year, and she was so great, and of course [Tyler McGlashan] always just like super brings it with his costumes and energy, and you never know what he’s going to do on stage.” Burlinson also shared that she often feels nervous before performing: “I’ve never been a theater arts person, and I always get that butterfly feeling before I go. I think Ms. DeSoto is the only one who could get me to do it.”

Fractured Follies MC Kevin Rogers also explained his favorite aspects of the show: “Getting to work more closely with teachers that I rarely get to see during the year; the camaraderie and big boost in teacher and student spirit; and being a goofball with some of my favorite people on earth.” Rogers’s best-loved skits from past years have been the elevator skit, even though it required lots of practice, and of course, the Big Baby skit, where he wore a onesie. Fellow MC Kurt Kroesche described his favorite feature of Fractured Follies: “It’s such a privilege to celebrate the year together as a community, laughing, singing, and dancing. I love that.” He also added that he enjoys when anyone is wearing a diaper.

For DeSoto, the show’s director, the highlight of each show is the finale, “when everyone in the auditorium stands up and sings. It encapsulates the best of the Wildcat spirit.” She added that another high point of the show is “dancing with twenty-plus teachers from different departments, many of whom I only see at staff meetings otherwise.” DeSoto explained that the hardest part of Fractured Follies is organizing nearly 50 teachers, comparing it to “herding cats in the best and worst ways.” DeSoto asserted that she “used to [get nervous] when I thought it was important that I dance, sing, or act flawlessly, but now all I do is make sure that I’m having the most fun ever anytime I’m on stage.”

This year’s Follies show took place on Thursday, May 22 and Friday May 23 in the LGHS theater. All proceeds for both shows will benefit The Teal Foundation, a local organization that supports ovarian cancer patients and research. If you missed the show this year, make sure to attend next May to support a local foundation and experience a night  full of great performances.
