Senior Bonnie Davis is racing to the finish line as she concludes her high school career. Through excellence in balancing national fencing competitions, academic rigor, and her various hobbies, Davis will leave Los Gatos High School full of accomplishments and proud moments.
Davis pursues fencing as a seasoned athlete, competing nationally and teaching locally. Davis first discovered fencing at a summer camp around eight years ago, which her mother signed her up for, who used to fence as well. Having left the camp with a newfound passion for the sport, she has continued to show greatness and is currently competing in national individual and team events. Recently, Davis left a stunning record at the North American Cup (NAC), a national fencing competition featuring top players. Her team placed first place while Davis herself placed top sixteen for juniors. Because fencing is a particularly unusual sport, Davis enjoys the smaller size of the sport, allowing her to gain travel experience as she goes to different competitions. Outside of competitions, Davis takes her fencing skills to her community as a part-time coach at the Silicon Valley Fencing Center.
Committed to the University of California San Diego (UCSD), Davis sets her sights on continuing to leave an impact in fencing at the university. At UCSD, Davis hopes to expand her academic knowledge as well. Influenced by her interest in psychology, she plans to major in Cognitive Science in the fall. Her excitement on such a complex topic is reflected in the course load she is taking as a senior, taking part in AP Statistics, Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology, Social Justice, and AP Government & Honors Economics.
Between fencing competitions and a rigorous course load, Davis maintains a balance with new interests and old hobbies. Davis talks about how she is trying to take on crocheting, something she had tried to get into in the past, as a good way to relax and calm down. Davis also enjoys cafe hopping, something she has done for some time. As a cafe connoisseur, Davis notes that Cupertino boasts the top-notch cafes. When asked about her personal favorite, Davis pointed out the matcha at Academia Coffee.
In her final weeks at LGHS, Davis recalls that her experience in high school has taught her to achieve a healthy school-life balance. Davis offers wisdom for any underclassmen who still have a long way to go. As a social butterfly, who enjoys hanging out with her friends in her free time, Davis deeply values these connections, as she advised: “Definitely find a group of people who support you and who are honest and good people. If you feel like they aren’t the right people for you, then don’t be afraid to let go and step away.”
