Almost 40 years ago, the infamous 1983 missing persons case of Emanuela Orlandi took Italy by storm when the fifteen year old girl never returned home after her flute lesson. The teenage girl’s case, although cold for years, gained traction with the Italian media after the four-part Netflix documentary series “Vatican Girl” popularized her story.  Previous reports the Vatican gave on Orlandi were brief and unrevealing, but after pleas from the public and Orlandi’s family, the Vatican’s promoter of justice confirmed on Monday, Jan. 9, that lawmakers would reopen Orlandi’s case and thoroughly reexamine it in a new light.
