US President Joe Biden and California Senator Alex Padilla met with Governor Gavin Newsom in downtown Capitola on Jan. 19 to address the recent 433 million dollars in storm damages and 20 casualties. According to New York Times, Biden followed a helicopter tour of the coast with a comment regarding where to attribute the blame for the history-making weather: “If anybody doubts that the climate is changing, then they must have been asleep for the last couple of years.” The event transformed downtown Captola, bringing traffic back-ups and crowds of residents, small business owners, and travelers from neighboring towns gathered to catch a glimpse.
