The San Francisco Legion of Honor’s newest exhibit, “Guo Pei: Couture Fantasy,” showcases more than 80 works from the past two decades, including multiple pieces from Pei’s runway collections between 2016 and 2020. With Eastern and Western influences, Guo Pei expertly weaves together elements of her inspiration with the limitations, or lack thereof, of fashion.

Highly-structured dresses with embroidered symbols of gothic architecture stand opposite of cascading Himalayan-inspired gowns with meticulous details referencing Himalayan Gods and temples. With upwards of 50,000 combined hours spent working on a single dress, each dress is more a work of art than a piece of clothing. Visit the Legion of Honor before Sept. 5 to learn more about Guo Pei and to experience the true essence of haute couture.
