On Oct. 16, the US carried out a strike on an alleged drug boat in the Caribbean as part of the Trump administration’s effort to drive down drug flow into the US. This was the first of six US strikes on different Caribbean ships where the strike had not instantly killed everyone on board, leading to the US Navy detaining the two survivors. At a White House event, Trump was questioned about the event.  He did not address the status of the detainees but commented that US forces had “attacked a submarine, and that was a drug carrying submarine built specifically for the transportation of massive amounts of drugs.”
