Sophomore Lizzie Morehouse is ecstatic to begin her second year at Los Gatos High School, taking on a rigorous course load and an abundance of extracurricular activities. Morehouse, often described by friends as energetic, humorous, and optimistic, brings her bubbly personality into every aspect of her high school experience.

Tackling a heavy workload, Morehouse is enrolled in English 10 Honors, French 3, AP European History, AP Calculus AB, Yearbook, and Chemistry. Morehouse summed up her busy schedule in two words: “No Sleep.” Despite the challenges her courses present, she reminds herself, “I am capable of anything I set my mind to,” an outlook that fuels her determination to succeed. Morehouse values her understanding of subjects and concepts rather than solely focusing on grades. She incorporates this value into her daily routine by spending additional time diving deeper into topics presented in class, and she encourages peers to take the same approach.

While Morehouse enjoys all of her courses, her favorite subject is Yearbook. The class allows her creativity to shine by designing page layouts and exploring her newfound hobby of photography. Additionally, Morehouse is an active member of the community, taking part in the Fellowship of Christian Athletics Club (FCA), meeting with guest speakers, and merging her love for sports with culture. In her free time, she enjoys watching Dance Moms, spending time with her friends, and splurging on French baguettes.

Outside of the classroom, Morehouse is engaged in many of LGHS’s athletic programs. Although an avid member of the soccer and track teams, from a young age, Morehouse has defined field hockey as her primary athletic focus. In addition to valuing skill level, Morehouse places emphasis on the team bonding aspect as well, emphasizing, “We need to spend a lot of time outside of just [working with] our sticks to be able to create connections within our team, which fosters a loving environment.” Playing as an inner or attacking as a forward, Morehouse readily supports her teammates on and off the field, overcoming any obstacles she encounters.

Morehouse hopes to continue challenging herself academically while also pursuing her athletic passions in the future. Leaving a lasting impression on her peers, Morehouse is eager to embark on another busy year, advising, “You have to not care about what other people think about you, because if you do, you spend so much time worrying about that when you could just feel happy.” As Morehouse prepares to set her own course, she urges others to remember that confidence is the key to success.
