On Oct. 29, the Shasta County police arrested the parents of a two-year-old toddler for homicide with special charges of child abuse. According to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to do a welfare check on the two year old toddler on Jan. 7 at the family’s residence. There, the deputies learned that the parents, Amanda and Riley Royal, had unlawfully buried their two year old daughter. After conducting an autopsy on the child, the police determined that the toddler had been subject to physical abuse and revealed that the parents likely killed their daughter. Deputies also found another child with the Royals who they later took to Shasta County Children’s Services. The parents are now in Shasta County Jail without bail.
If you witness abuse, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 800-799-7233, or the Los Gatos Police Non Emergency Line, 408-354-8600.
