San Francisco already struggles with a lack of parking, and the issue is about to get even worse: the city implemented a state law aimed at protecting pedestrians. The new law states that no car can park within 20 feet of any crosswalk. This applies to intersections, meaning SF loses 160 feet of parking with every intersection. Pedestrians appreciate the new law; however, many business owners find it harmful and are being forced to shut down buildings due to the lack of parking available. Currently, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency will issue warnings for violations, but starting in January, they’ll begin writing 40-dollar tickets for those who violate the law.
