On Sept. 11 at 6:45 p.m., the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team kicked off the 2023-24 season with a home game against Cupertino. Pulling off an impressive score of 3-0, the girls beat the Cupertino Pioneers every set. The action on the court was fast-paced and non-stop with junior Rielly Ann Mendez, senior Allison Black, and senior Katie Steiner bringing in the power with skillful plays to win in the second set. Additionally, junior Mia Halsey and junior Nicole Steiner made notable plays in the 3rd set to help seal the win.

The Los Gatos Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshman teams played against teams including Monte Vista, Archbishop Mitty, and Sacred Heart Prep during pre-season. Due to months of hard work throughout the summer, all three teams came through winning each game opposing Cupertino; Freshman and JV teams each finishing with a score of 0-2.

Pre-season workouts began this summer to get the team prepared to compete for the challenging season ahead. The three teams practiced tirelessly participating in 8 AM workouts and afternoon practices. This hard work is demonstrated at the start of this fall season as the girls proved their skills, strength, and agility to bring home wins for Los Gatos.

Girls’ JV Volleyball furthered its winning streak throughout the school year so far, initially winning against Hillsdale, Monte Vista, and Westmoor, and now rising to victory over Cupertino. When asked what motivates JV sophomore Ammie Robinson before a game, she replied, “Listening to the best hype music.” She and her teammates revealed they share a go-to hype song, “Barbie World by Nicki Minaj.”

The volleyball season runs through the end of October. During this time, the Wildcats will compete in both league matches and tournaments in hopes of winning the State Championships.

With over 10 wins so far, the Los Gatos Girls’ Volleyball teams head down the road of success this 2023 season. Various home games to look forward to include; Mountain View on Oct. 10, Palo Alto on Oct. 17, and Salinas on Oct. 20.
