LGHS Basketball Season Ends

As the season’s end nears, the Los Gatos High School Boys’ and Girls’ basketball teams are preparing for the final stretch of league play. Previously, on Jan. 18, the Boys’ Varsity Basketball Team hosted Saratoga and won handily 56-39. Sophomore Scotty Brennan and junior Nolan Koch led the Wildcats with 11 points each. Following their win, Los Gatos traveled to Mountain View High School where the Wildcats suffered their first loss in league play, with a score of 45-60. The Wildcats’ schedule eased out the next week as they attained a season sweep of Gunn with their 60-49 win; Koch aided the Wildcats with a team high 13 points.

A week later, Los Gatos visited Palo Alto in a tight game where the two teams were tied entering the final play of the game. Junior Ronan Chinmulgund succeeded on an acrobatic layup to seal the win for Los Gatos. The Wildcats faced Los Altos on Feb. 3, featuring Brennan and senior Max Houghton dominating in the final minutes and completing the comeback for Los Gatos. Los Gatos swept Saratoga on the road on Feb. 8 with Brennan scoring 21 points and the Wildcats avenged their earlier loss to Mountain View with a 37-35 win on Feb. 10. Unfortunately, Wildcat fans illegally ran onto the court following the win resulting in fan suspensions for the final league game and the first CCS playoff game.

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team hosted Saratoga on Jan. 17 and dominated their opponent, winning 60-34. Sophomore Ashley Childers scored a team high 22 points. Next, a home league game against Monta Vista which included 19 points from sophomore Nicole Steiner. Los Gatos continued their impressive win streak in league as they cruised past Homestead. Next up was Lynbrook who fell behind early and lost 45-18. A road game against rival Palo Alto on Feb. 1 showcased the Wildcats winning a close game 52-43; junior Claire Galbo led Los Gatos with 19 points.

Thursday, Feb. 2 featured senior night for the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team against Los Altos where they forged a 5-point comeback win. The Wildcats swept the season series against Saratoga on Feb. 7 and Monta Vista on Feb. 9. The Girls’ JV basketball team struggled on offense against Los Altos on Feb. 2 and suffered a 32-19 loss.

The Boys’ JV basketball team continued their prolific win streak throughout their league play. They hosted Saratoga on Jan. 18 and visited Mountain View on Jan. 20; both games ended in the Wildcats winning by at least 30 points. Notably, sophomore RJ Cannan notched 13 points against Mountain View. The winning streak lengthened with Los Gatos dominating Menlo School 55-30 and sweeping Gunn with a 57-41 win. Sophomore Anthony Martin scored 21 against Gunn and followed up his performance with 31 points to lead Los Gatos to a 78-64 win over Palo Alto. Again, Martin exuded dominance versus Los Altos, scoring 17 points in the first half alone.

The JV boys beat Saratoga by a significant margin on Feb. 8 and followed with a 10-point victory against Mountain View on Feb. 10. Los Gatos also defeated Palo Alto in a rescheduled game on Feb. 11. The Wildcats battled back from an 8-point halftime deficit with sophomore Sky Christman scoring 10 points.
