On Nov. 30, the Biden-Harris administration launched the Voluntary Community-Driven Relocation program to support Indigenous communities with their relocation due to climate change. The program, led by the United States Department of the Interior, awards money to Native American tribes anywhere in the US who are susceptible to the dangers of the surrounding warming climate.  The allocated money for this program iofs 135 millionh will go to tribes in Alaska whose homes are affected by permafrost melt, or the Makah Reservation, which suffers landslides throughout the year. When asked to comment on the matter, Bryan Newland, the Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs at the Interior Department, said, “That is the toughest question. We’ve got to start somewhere.”
