On Feb. 5, acclaimed spoken word poets Sarah and Phil Kay held a performance in the LGHS theater during 4th period. English and creative writing classes attended the event, along with assorted LGHS students and even alumni. The duo performed poetry ranging in subject from their upbringings in California and New York to the strange coincidences that brought them together, and even covered the intricacies of the role love has played in their lives. The duo then opened the stage up to any members of the audience that had poetry of their own to share with their peers.
The performance was part of the youth poetry initiative Project Voice which the Kays represented, and provided an opportunity for two members of the LGHS community to have their voices heard.
Freshman Hope Beckman, and LGHS 2015 graduate Burton Craig both read poems they had written and added unique perspectives to the discussion that hang in the air over the auditorium. The assembly was one that won’t be forgotten by anyone who attended.
