Typhoon devastates the Philippines

On Friday Nov. 8, Typhoon Haiyan, known as Yolanda in Asia, struck the Philippines. It was accompanied by 235-mph winds and twenty feet of tidal surge. Early estimates suggest that Haiyan caused at least 10,000. In addition, the United Nations reported that the disaster displaced as many as 660,000 people.

Russian Meteorite Tested

On Wed., Oct. 16, a, 5-foot-long chunk of the Russian meteorite, Chelyabinsk,which fell to earth Feb. 15 of this year, was pulled out of Lake Chebarkula from a depth of 65 feet. When brought to the surface, the rock broke into three pieces, all of which were saved.

NHL Season Report

Ever since the season began in mid-September, hockey news has been circling the sports world. The west is dominating the eastern teams and rookies are shining on the ice. Many teams are in very different positions than where they finished last season.

Sharks Rookie ‘Hertl’s Himself Into the Spotlight

The San Jose Sharks are off to a fantastic start this season. They have won all six games so far, making them one of just two undefeated teams. The team leads the Pacific Division and have the most shots-on-goal overall. They also have the highest average goals per game. Despite their successes, the team as a whole is not the talk of the hockey world. One player in particular shines brighter than the rest.

Saint Mary’s Fair 2013

LGHS Field Hockey Starts Season Strong

In 2010, seniors Marcia Lewis, Jamie Leong, Sadie Logan and Hannah Westall-Toler watched in awe as the LGHS field hockey team won its third consecutive CCS title. Now seniors and leaders of the LGHS field hockey team, the girls are determined to end their last season together the same way they ended their first: as CCS Champions.
