Following the excitement from Indian Wells, just a few weeks prior, professional tennis players traveled to Florida on Mar. 16 to compete in the renowned Miami Open. After the Australian Open at the beginning of the year, the Miami Open is one of the largest tennis events of the hard-court season before the transition into the summer clay-court tournaments. Results from the competition showed domination by top-ranked players and title achievements which will go down in tennis history.

On the men’s side of the draw, eliminations of some of the most well-known players in the game left sections of the bracket open. Novak Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the Miami Open a few weeks before the event due to a shoulder injury he sustained in his fourth round loss at Indian Wells. Other surprising results early in the tournament included No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz falling to No. 32 Sebastian Korda and the elimination of No.9 seed Daniel Medvedev, both results in the round of 32. With many of world No.2 Jannik Sinner’s top rivals knocked out by other players, Sinner won six consecutive matches in straight sets and finally defeated No. 21 Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-4 in the final to claim the Miami Open title. Sinner’s consecutive title wins at Indian Wells and the Miami Open make him the fourth man in tennis history to claim the Sunshine Double; the challenging task of claiming both titles consecutively. Sinner described the moment after winning his 26th title and seventh Masters 1000 saying, “It’s a very, very special moment. Coming here, performing again in a very good way after Indian Wells means a lot to me. Finals are always very, very different and difficult to play… It was not easy today, but I’m very, very happy.” The current No. 2 in the world, Sinner will be heading into the clay court season on a winning tear.

This year’s Miami Open marks the fourth time in tennis history that a men’s and women’s professional achieved the Sunset Double in the same year. The dominating performance from No.1 Aryna Sabelenka makes her the first professional tennis player to win the Sunshine Double in both singles and doubles following her doubles titles with Elise Mertens in 2017. After defeating one of her biggest rivals No. 3 Elena Rybakina 6-4 6-3 in the semifinals, Sabelenka played a tough match against world No.4 Coco Gauff in the final. Sebelanka and Gauff frequently challenged each other in big finals matches, but ultimately Sebelenka won the match in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and claimed the title. Dominating women’s tennis so far this season, Sebelenka will continue to hold her spot as the world No.1.

The 2026 Miami Open featured  top professionals claiming big titles and cementing their names in tennis history. Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sebelenka, and doubles partnership Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova will all be joining the famous Sunshine Double Party. The Miami Open officially marks the end of the “Sunshine Swing” in the U.S. before the European clay tournament season commences.
