The Los Gatos Track and Field Team is ready for another great 2026 spring season. With the preseason finally coming to an end, in-season meets have officially begun. The work these athletes put in over the long, arduous off-season will now be put on full display in upcoming meets.
The 2026 season started with a home meet against Mountain View High School on Mar. 4. The team competed fiercely, setting new personal records and developing a strong foundation to build on for the rest of the year. According to junior James Price, “I have learned a lot from practicing with my team. My coach has helped me a lot in terms of improving my form and technique.” As a varsity hurdler, Price specializes in events such as the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. Price’s gratitude towards his team and the coaching staff is a sentiment commonly shared by various members of the LG track team, as teamwork and dedication are important qualities needed to improve in track and field. Having the role as team captain, Price faces an important responsibility to serve as a role model for the rest of the team, as he described, “I was honored when I received this role and wanted to do my best in order to continue helping this decorated program.”
Los Gatos continued to showcase a strong performance in the distance races. According to junior varsity runner Alex Casal Montserrat, “My team has helped motivate me to run farther and faster. My coaches have also designed a pretty strong workout regimen as well as general help with motivation, focus, and running technique.” Junior Casal Montserrat attributes this to being a crucial factor in his success at meets. Overall, he is very proud of the team’s accomplishments at this first home meet. On the girls’ side, particularly in the 1600-meter race, Piper Pyle and Kiley Horwitz both scored points, and on the boys’ side, Kevin Sacco also made a valuable contribution to the team’s score.
At the initial home meets, the relay performances were the main standouts. The LG Boys’ Varsity 4 by 400 meter relay team defeated Mountain View by a margin of over eight seconds; Girls’ Varsity won by over nine seconds. These were large margins, considering how these races can go down to the last second. This victory was an impressive achievement and reflected the hard work done by the athletes. The home meet against Palo Alto High School on Mar. 10 showed much of the same, as Los Gatos continued to dominate the relays. Against Palo Alto, Boys’ Varsity won by over five seconds, while Girls’ Varsity also contributed to the overall team score.
The Los Gatos Track and Field Team has only just begun their season, and they will continue to improve as the year continues. Be sure to check out their track meet at the Saint Francis High School Invitational on Mar. 21.
