News-in-Brief: SF St. Patrick’s Day Parade and more

Measure 13 passes: Following the preliminary town hall meeting on Dec. 17, 2025 the town and council members alike reconvened for a follow-up meeting on Measure 13, a proposal advocating for the raising of the Pride flag in Los Gatos during the month of June, also known as Pride month. The board tabled the issue after the first meeting. In the next assembly, the council members and town residents had a more robust discussion. After multiple public testimonials, many from LGHS students like Nova Jayaraj and Lee Cummings, the council voted to approve Measure 13 for the town of Los Gatos.

New trans student policies begin: On Mar. 2, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a group of religious parents, putting a temporary pause on California’s general policy of preventing public schools from informing parents/guardians of their transgender student’s gender identity. California’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta, staunchly opposed the ruling, warning, “The consequences of compelling the disclosure of confidential information about their gender identity would be irreversible.” California’s Governor Gavin Newsom also voiced his disapproval, “Teachers should be focused on teaching—not forced to be gender cops.” (Sources: NYT)

LG implements homelessness resources program: In recent years, the number of unhoused people in Los Gatos has been steadily rising. In spite of preventative measures like increased funding and small housing programs churches run around town, homelessness is still an issue that the Town Council is working to improve. Recently, the town announced a federal funding commitment of two hundred thousand dollars that Congressman Sam Liccardo secured to support the Valley Mobile Navigation Center. The van delivers case management, showers, food, laundry, and other critical resources. Unhoused individuals will have access to more resources from the van program, which will hopefully be put in place for the coming year.

Girl Scout Cookie season returns: It is that time of the year again: Girl Scout Cookie season. Around Los Gatos and across the country, members of Girl Scouts are setting up booths to sell their famous cookies. Their classic Thin Mints, Samoas, and Lemon-Ups are back for another year. The newest cookie, Exploremores, is a chocolate-coated cookie with marshmallow and toasted almond creme filling. Make sure to stop by your local stand to pick up your favorites and support the Girl Scouts!
