On Sept. 4, the National Football League (NFL) made its return after a seven-month hiatus. This season promises to be one of the most competitive in recent history, with various teams having a definite chance at Super Bowl contention this year.

The Philadelphia Eagles, the defending champions, have gotten off to a strong start this year. In their Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, their divisional rival, the Eagles survived with a 24-20 win. Their star quarterback, Jalen Hurts, threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Similarly, in a Super Bowl rematch in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs, Hurts and his team of superstars found a way to win the game 20-17. They capitalized on a dropped catch by Travis Kelce, which resulted in an interception and a touchdown on the other end. The Eagles look dangerous and will make a strong push for back-to-back Super Bowls.

The Green Bay Packers appear to be one of the most improved teams from last year. With their late offseason acquisition of defensive end Micah Parsons from the Cowboys, the Packers’ defense looks formidable. In Week 1, the Packers had a showdown with the Detroit Lions, the former No. 1 seed in the NFC. The team showed their defensive grit, holding the most explosive offense in football to two field goals for the majority of the game. They ended up easily winning the game 27-13. The Packers’ young quarterback, Jordan Love, has taken a leap to stardom this year, throwing for 292 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 2 win against the Washington Commanders. The Packers, after bolstering their defense, are undoubtedly capable of winning the Super Bowl.

The matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens, two of the top contenders in the AFC, is already a candidate for game of the year. It featured an offensive masterclass from quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. The Chiefs, the reigning AFC champions, are looking vulnerable this year, and it seems likely that either the Ravens or the Bills will be heading to the Super Bowl. For most of this game, the Ravens were the better team, coasting with a 40-25 lead with five minutes to go. However, the Bills quarterback, Josh Allen, rallied his team together and fought back, making the right plays and keeping the Bills in the game, who ended up winning by 41-40. They took advantage of a fumble by Ravens running back Derrick Henry, as well as the Ravens’ defense collectively collapsing in the final few minutes.

There has been a large shift in the power dynamic of the NFL this year. This season promises to provide a wealth of entertainment for viewers, with teams like the Bills seemingly poised for success and teams like the Chiefs facing the end of their championship window. Only time will tell which teams have a real chance of winning the elusive Super Bowl.
