Singhal Gives Tips To Make it to the End of the Year

The sun is shining, AP season is wrapping up, summer plans are being made, it’s almost the end of the year…right? Wrong. Even though this laborious school year feels complete, there is still much to be done. If you’re a student like me who suffers from early-onset senioritis, there are a few things you can do to trudge through this month instead of giving up and watching Netflix all day.

First, keep a calendar. Nothing maintains your motivation like crossing off yet another day before our suffering – I mean, school year – comes to an end. Hang the calendar up on your wall or near your desk so when you’re finishing those last assignments, the thought of the dwindling number of days left in the school year can keep you going. Speaking of homework, another tip is to make a routine. If you need an idea, here’s my after-school schedule: go home, do one question from my homework, have a breakdown, stare into the void until dinner, and lastly, go to sleep telling myself I’m going to wake up early to do the rest of my homework (I won’t). Now, your routine may not be as efficient as mine, but any semblance of a pattern can set you up for success. You may be saying “Siyona, I don’t feel motivated to do my homework after school,” but I have a solution for that. Two words: reward system. Every paragraph of an essay earns you a sweet treat, and every math question answered is two minutes of doom-scrolling. It’s the little things that keep you going, you know?

We all know that the most difficult task in the morning is waking up. I have slept through my 15 alarms and woken up with ten minutes left to leave the house way too often. But I have formulated the perfect way to fix this issue. Set your alarm to the most annoying song you know. I recommend Thick of It by KSI or Dance Monkey by Tones and I. The excruciating rhythm of your song of choice will force you to wake up simply to save your poor ears. Continuing on with morning routines, the biggest portion of my morning is taken up by choosing an outfit to wear. With the sun coming out, so is my will to look cute. Summer is the time for cute shorts and even cuter tops, but curating these ensembles takes time. Instead of putting together your outfit for the day in the morning, choose what you’re going to wear the night before. This is a sure way to save you from pulling your hair out and screaming that you have no clothes at 7:30 AM every day. Make sure to grab your backpack full of broken dreams and crumbled papers, a hearty lunch consisting of a banana and some gum, and a water bottle that may be filled with an energy drink to ensure you look and feel good during the day.

The last few weeks of school feel like being burned alive, but it’s also the best time of the year. It’s all about taking school one day at a time and showing up to school, even when it feels like your personal torture chamber. Whether you’re powered by caffeine or the fear of failing your finals, you’re doing great. I believe in your ability to make it to summer without becoming a high school dropout…probably.
