Domus, the beloved home goods store on N Santa Cruz Ave, is kicking off the holiday season with its annual Christmas ornament rollout and a store chock full of unique seasonal items. Known for its lighthearted and fun products, Domus and its employees are gearing up to spread the holiday cheer.

The store’s festive fall decor marks the first sign of the holiday season. From glass pumpkins and fall leaves to ghost figurines and spooky witches, Domus goes above and beyond for the holidays. On Sept. 29, the store hosted its annual Christmas ornament rollout, in which employees spent multiple hours decorating the store for Christmas and creating new holiday displays, including their famous four-walled hanging array of ornaments. On Sept. 30, customers could purchase ornaments in-store. Store owner Margaret Leto described the holiday preparations as exciting but noted, “A lot of thought and planning needs to go into changes for the holiday season.” However, it’s not just the holiday season that requires an abundance of hard work, as the store changes its displays quite frequently. As Leto pointed out, “It is important that our store has a new and different look every seven to ten days, so that means the main displays need to be changed out.” For the holiday season, that means constantly rearranging and designing new and intriguing displays.

Customers deemed Domus “a very fun place to shop,” which is evident from its whimsical and cozy environment that draws people in and leaves every customer with a special memory. Many customers have shopped at the store for years, so it’s easy to see how Domus plays a role in their holiday traditions. Leto explained the store’s role in these traditions, “There are many customers who buy Christmas ornaments every year at Domus to give to friends and/or family members. There are customers who will only buy their boxed Christmas cards from Domus. In Domus, there is always a season/reason to celebrate.” Acknowledging that customers come to Domus for goods that are not typically available at other stores, Leto commented: “Every holiday season, customers come to Domus for unique and reasonably priced items. They want to see new, different, and practical items that they can’t find at other big box retailers. That is why I spend literally hours every day going on buying trips throughout the United States and Europe.”

Working hard every day for Domus, Leto demonstrates immense love not only for her store but also for giving each customer a fulfilling shopping experience. Leto also expressed her passion for the store by stating: “I love seeing the store change with the seasons. My favorite part is the changing colors: winter with its subdued colors for everything from dinnerware to flowers to table linens.” So, whether it is pumpkin-themed kitchenware or a last-minute Christmas gift, Domus has you covered and is an essential visit in downtown Los Gatos.
