The LGHS softball teams are having an incredible season and have triumphed on the field. The varsity softball team ended its season undefeated in league, with a 12-0 record, placing first in the Santa Clara Valley De Anza League and advancing to the open division of the Central Coast Section Tournament (CCS).

 This season, freshman Ava Norquist has been exceptional, pitching 98 of the team’s 125 innings. With a record of 13-3, she has an impressive 1.71 Earned Run Average (ERA) and has thrown 117 strikeouts. Notably, she recorded 10 of those strikeouts in a 2-1 league win over Homestead High School on Apr. 26. Other standout players include Sophomore Grace Tucker, the team’s talented shortstop, and their junior second baseman Clare Torres. Other skilled players are the team’s first baseman, junior Lily Young, and third basemen, junior Robyn Young and junior out fielder Addie Sorto, who have all had impressive seasons. 

As the season comes to a close, Junior Ria Sharma reflected on her time spent on the field, stating, “It’s really fun to play when everyone on the team is cheering and putting their full effort into the game.” As the team headed into CCS, she shared that “we were still missing a couple of key players, but the team was still looking strong, and I think we had a really good season.” Unfortunately, Mitty high school eliminated the team in the CCS quarterfinals with a final score of 0-4. Young detailed similar experiences and proudly shared that the team’s “biggest success was going undefeated in league.” Young went on to share that some of her favorite memories “were spending time with teammates at pasta feeds and playing music during practice.” 

The JV team closed out its season by continuing its nine-game winning streak against Los Altos High School with a final score of 15-0. The team has gone undefeated since beating Leigh High School 2-1 in their first game on Mar. 5. 

Sophomore Alexa Hobson stated how proud she was of the team and how their chemistry reflected their success. She mentioned that one of her favorite parts of the team’s atmosphere was that they “were all very supportive. There were no toxic vibes, and we got along really well.” She also noted that the team’s success was largely due to their relationship with their coach, George Silvey. Hobson shared a fond memory explaining that “when we played a game against McDonald High School and won, we all went to McDonald’s after, and the coach bought us food.” 

Although the season has come and gone, one can expect even more excitement from the 2024-25 season!
