The LGHS Boys Golf team concluded a successful season at the top of their league and with equally as daring aspirations for next year.

The season opened with a tournament at Bayview Country Club, where they came in an impressive second place. Senior Ayush Joshi, shared, “I’m proud of my team for starting off the season strong.” The team began league matches with a win versus Lynbrook, followed by a 200-225 win over Cupertino, and a 210-220 win against Monta Vista. A defeat of Palo Alto followed a few days later, marking four wins in a row for the team. These matches took place twice a week, with each one lasting a staggering two to two and a half hours. Out of the top six players, only five of the six scores add up towards a cumulative score that counts against their opponents.

In the next match, Boys Golf unfortunately lost 195-201 to Los Altos. However, the team bounced back from the loss, proving their skill and determination by winning their next two matches against Cupertino and Saratoga. Their next win versus Monta Vista moved their record up to 7-1. Sophomore Gavin Seiler said, “We crushed them,” regarding their win over Monta Vista. The team secured two more wins over Lynbrook and Los Altos, but then their next two matches ended in losses to Saratoga and Palo Alto. However, they went on to claim first place in the DeAnza League, which sent them onto the first round of CCS. After completing the first round, sophomores Tyler Purcell and Kabir Khanna qualified and moved onto the second round of CCS as individuals.

Alongside their impressive skills, Boys Golf has incredible chemistry, which fueled their achievements this season. Khanna remarked, “It’s a solid group of guys and everyone is always willing to give it their best effort and support others throughout.” Joshi agreed, adding, “It’s super fun. Everyone likes being on the team together and we all have a blast while we’re playing.” This environment allowed for the vast number of wins LGHS Boys Golf accumulated this season. Another contributor to the positive atmosphere is the team’s coach, Dave Denight, who led the team to victory this year. Joshi said, “He’s a fun guy who likes to have fun.”

The LGHS Boys Golf team is setting high expectations for next year by hoping to win league once more and advance farther in CCS. Khanna said, “It was really fun to be a part of this team and I can’t wait for next year.” Make sure to congratulate your Wildcats on their success this season and be prepared for the team’s continued accomplishments next year!
