Senior Miles Kramer is officially committed to the motherland of oranges, Syracuse University, for rowing. The Los Gatos Rowing Club (LGRC) junior athlete has been a member of the club since the spring of his freshman year, making this his third year participating in the sport. Kramer officially announced his commitment on Feb. 3.
Kramer has achieved many successes over his junior rowing career, including first place at the 2021 Youth National Championships (YNC) in the U17 4x category, along with fellow LGHS seniors Alberto Lasso and Ian Moss. This was the first big win for Kramer out of many to come. Another dub taken by Kramer was his fourth place finish at the prestigious Head of the Charles in 2021 during his junior year, rowing with LGHS alumni and senior at the time Justin Renner in the Youth 4x category.
In the Spring of 2022, Kramer rowed against stiff competition at the San Diego Crew Classic, placing second overall in the Youth 4x category. In the 2022 YNC, Kramer managed to snatch second place in the Youth 4x category alongside the same crewmates from their previous YNC first place finish. After the 2022 YNC, Kramer headed over to Oxfordshire, England, where he competed in the Henley Royal Regatta on Thames in the same Youth 4x category. He stated, “Over the past two years we have had stellar results at these major regattas; big races satisfy my competitive drive. It’s especially fun getting to compete out of the country. Rowing is a big deal across the Atlantic, and it feels good to be recognized.”
Kramer once again competed in the Youth 4x category at the 2022 Head of the Charles. He placed first on a technicality, but hey, that still counts!
Discussing his recruitment process, Kramer admitted, “Recruiting was challenging not just because of the physical requirements college coaches demand, but because of the constant emails, phone calls, and meetings.” For rowers, the recruitment process seems never ending until the athlete has officially committed, simply because the rowing season lasts all year round.
When asked the question, “Why Syracuse?” Kramer acknowledged that, “Syracuse offered me a spot late in the recruiting timeline. I chose to commit there because of the team’s culture and drive, as well as their outstanding performance over the last few years.” He then spoke about his excitement about moving over 2800 miles away, “I’m excited to be able to live on my own, dedicate more time to training, and pursue my interests in STEM.”
