On Dec. 9, Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema switched her party affiliation from Democrat to independent. She intends to continue voting how she has in the past, as well as caucusing with and receiving committee assignments from the Democrats. This means the Democrats will maintain control of the Senate, although their majority hold will be less secure. She stated, “Nothing will change about my values or my behavior.” In an interview with Politico, Sinema added, “I don’t anticipate that anything will change about the Senate structure [either].”
