Cross Country Concludes Season

LGHS cross country is back at it again with the final two races of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League (SCVAL) season.

The third SCVAL race took place at Baylands park on Oct 18. The Varsity boys, Varsity girls, Junior Varsity (JV) boys, JV girls, and frosh-soph boys all tackled the 3.1-mile flat dirt course. LGHS’ Varsity boys’ top runner was sophomore Aydon Stefanopoulos, who placed fourth with a time of 16:09.1. LGHS Varsity boys pushed, but their results left Los Gatos in fourth place. The LGHS girl’s Varsity team did very well however, with senior Sophie Tau placing third with a time of 18:37.4 and sophomore Shea Elmore placing sixth with a time of 19:03.2. Overall, LGHS placed second. JV boys were unable to put any runners into favorable positions, leaving LGHS off the leaderboard. JV girls did well in their race, with sophomore Zoe Williamson placing third with a time of 21:35.9. JV girls put LGHS firmly in second place for this category. Finally, the frosh-soph boys, LGHS sophomore Constantine Chen placed 17th, the highest position held by an LGHS runner at the race. LGHS ranked fifth overall in this category.

The fourth and final SCVAL race took place at Crystal Springs on November 1. The course at Crystal Springs is a hilly and dusty 2.95-mile course set in the hills above San Francisco. Categories for this race were JV girls, frosh-soph boys, and varsity boys and girls. The LGHS JV Girls’ team dominated in their race, scoring a 1-2-3 finish. These runners were sophomores Sarina Salzer-Swartz, who finished with a time of 21:16.0, and Zoe Williamson with a time of 21:49.1, as well as junior Claire Liu, with a time of 22:18.1. Strong JV girls runners helped LGHS finish the SCVAL season in first place in this category. The LGHS Girls’ Varsity team also scored a 1-2-3 finish in their race, with Tau, Elmore, and Sophomore Addison Lundstrom logging times of 17:57.8, 18:53.1, and 19:16.9, respectively. The LGHS Girls’ varsity team put LGHS in first place for this category as well. Stefanopoulos came in first place again with a blisteringly quick time of 15:30.3, placing LGHS first in the category. Finally, the frosh-soph boy’s race showcased the top runners from LGHS in this category: sophomore Brody Horwitz placing fourth with a time of 18:02.2, freshman Bruce Duygulutuna placing sixth with a time of 18:17.1, and sophomore Sahil Agarwal placing eighth with a time of 18:20.1. LGHS Frosh-Soph Boys did an excellent job. They placed second overall, only nine points behind Lynbrook to close out the SCVAL season.
