The Netflix limited series Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer follows two lead investigators from the L.A.County Sheriff’s Department, Lt. Gil Carrillo and legendary homicide detective Sgt. Frank Salerno on a homicide case. The two detectives narrate their experience working to catch one of the most flagrant serial killers in America’s history during the 1980s, Richard Ramirez.
The docuseries incorporates descriptive retellings from some of the victims who escaped the killer who terrorized the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco from 1984 to the summer of 1985. The four-part series reveals various details about the unnerving characteristics of the serial killer’s technique including his lack of pattern among his victims.
This aspect made the case especially unique and difficult to solve. People who lived in Los Angeles and San Francisco during Ramirez’s reign of terror remember their fear that anyone could be a victim. The limited series includes graphic content of crime scenes as well as mentions of sexual assault and may be disturbing for some viewers.
