The 2025 swim and dive seasons are starting in a sprint as athletes prepare for their first meets within just three weeks of practice! In the first couple of weeks, swimmers and divers warmed up their skills in cloudy and rainy conditions. Over break, all teams got to enjoy many days and nights of warmer weather, and as some of the vets can attest to, anything is better than last year’s season of complete rainy downpour! In light of the new season starting, here are some highlights of two amazing veteran athletes’ experiences on both teams.
Junior Eduardo Lasso is competing on the varsity swim team, continuing his successful season on varsity swim from last year. Even though Lasso started off the 2025 season with some sickness, he has full confidence in making this season great, treating this setback as a mere pebble in his path. Lasso began swimming during the pandemic and has found success and enjoyment in competing for his high school and club teams ever since. He noted, “My favorite thing about swim is the camaraderie between teammates and even coaches. While many people view swimming as an individual sport, there is certainly a team aspect that keeps me motivated when training is intense.” He further explained, “The team community at my high school is like none other. There are very few practices throughout the season where we don’t have a blast and end up hanging out and grabbing food after practice. I think we undoubtedly have the best team community in the area because everyone is having fun.” Despite Lasso’s major success from his sophomore season where he competed at states, he mentioned that his goals for this season are more focused on helping to create a fun team environment as he wishes to see younger swimmers prosper athletically and socially. Keep an eye out for Lasso this season; if you blink, you might miss this swimming all-star!
Senior Aanya Singh starts her fourth and final season on the varsity dive team this year. Singh captains the high school diving team and is excited to make improvements and reforms while also pushing toward overall team success with the addition of their newest member, Bert Wolfe, a freshman at LGHS. Singh first joined diving as a retired gymnast for many years and in an interview, she emphasized, “My favorite thing about diving is the spirit of the team. I have made a lot of friends on all of the other high school teams, and it’s really cool to hang out with all these different people from other schools who are interested in the same thing.” Although the team faces the cold climate with a bit of fear, mainly because most of the sport is spent standing outside the water, Singh is confident in her team’s ability to succeed. While explaining her goals for the season, Singh noted, “I think my biggest goal is to qualify for CCS,” as she made it last year and had a lot of fun competing. Watch out as Singh makes leaps and bounds this season.
