The California State Senate and Assembly recently passed a new bill to place warning alert systems in passenger vehicles that go ten miles over the speed limit. If Governor Gavin Newson passes this legislation, the government will instate it in 2030. The purpose of this new restriction is to limit deaths and injuries caused by speeding in California. Although this technology would help drivers follow the speed limit, some argue that this law would be harmful as it restricts the drivers’ freedom and causes an alert signal that might distract drivers from focusing on the road. Although this technology already exists and is used by the European Union, if passed, it will be the first of its kind in the United States.
