On Sept. 5, Los Gatos High School held its first semester Club Day on the front lawn. During tutorial, hundreds of students gathered to join new and existing clubs related to their passions. LGHS has over 110 different clubs run by students of all grades. Whether students are interested in volunteering, making new friends, helping educate younger students, or sharing their interests with others, they are sure to find a club for them!
Club Day and all events surrounding clubs are run by leadership’s Club and Tech Commission. This commission consists of freshman Ivan Habib, sophomore Mehul Patel, and junior Dylan Wadhwa. Before Club Day, officers attended a mandatory Club Day meeting, prepared their table, and started publicizing their club. During Club Day, leadership set up rows of tables on the front lawn. Club leaders strategically attracted new members with their unique posters and pounds of candy. Junior Caleb Wu, president of the Basketball Analysis Club, said, “It was a great experience promoting my club and meeting new people.”
There were many different clubs at this year’s Club Day, some of which are returning and some of which are new. Some returning clubs include LGHS Big & Little Club run by senior Kate Uhlfelder. Abby Uhlfelder, K. Uhlfelder’s older sister, created this club in 2021. LGHS Big & Little Club continues to promote the goal of fostering genuine relationships between students of different grades. Another returning club is the Jewish Student Union. As co-founder of this club, senior Ella Noy shared, “Omer Rabin and I founded JSU to give a place not only for Jews at school but for everyone interested in Jewish culture. We think it’s important to invite everyone to come share our roots to foster a more inclusive community at LG.” Other preexisting clubs include Los Gatos High School Interact, run by junior Chesle Bae and junior Riley An, and Cats Homework Help led by senior Claire Mayder.
On top of previously existing clubs at LGHS, there are many new clubs this year including the Pickleball Club created by sophomore Ryan Ho, the Surf Riders Club started by junior Hugo Baring, and the Cats Fighting Domestic Violence Club founded by Bae. The Pickleball Club encourages students to meet new people and grow the pickleball community in Los Gatos. The goal of the Surf Riders Club is to protect the ocean. The Cats Fighting Domestic Violence Club is focused on raising awareness of domestic violence.
The first Club Day of the year was a success as many students joined different clubs to further their passions. If you missed the opportunity to join a club, do not worry, as most clubs are still welcoming more members. Stay tuned for next semester’s Club Day!
