As she concludes her junior year, LGHS student Sydney Fried is setting herself up for a bright future. Creative, collaborative, and friendly are all words that Fried would use to describe herself, and all are apparent in both her school work and extracurriculars. From being captain of the lacrosse team to acting as president and co-founder of the American Cancer Society (ACS) Club, Fried’s many achievements are no small feat.

As president of ACS, Fried demonstrates just how far her passion and perseverance for the club goes. This fall, she organized the pink-out football game, where fans came wearing pink spirit, and she sold ACS merchandise to raise funds for finding a cure for cancer. Next year, Fried aims to create more pink-out themed games in other sports like volleyball and field hockey. When asked why she decided to take a leadership role in the club she explained how it was because of her mom’s diagnosis that she felt inspired to begin the club with her sister, LGHS alumna Lauren Fried.

In addition to her philanthropic endeavors, Fried partakes in many school activities, such as playing goalkeeper on the LGHS Girls JV Soccer Team last year. Fried played club soccer up until her junior year because she wanted to spend more time fine tuning her academics and with her family. However, her athletic talents are not limited to soccer. Fried also plays for the JV lacrosse team, acting as captain and playing defensive midfield. Recently, Fried ran for Senior Spirit alongside junior Stella Vijungco. When asked why, she shared, “Stella and I wanted to help with the spirit rallies. We’re very spirited individuals.”

Fried shows she is not afraid of a challenge with her daunting course load; in only her junior year, Fried has taken four APs and five honors classes. Fried is currently taking AP US History, AP Physics, Spanish 4 Honors, AP Language, and Trigonometry Pre-Calculus Honors. Fried expects to continue these challenging courses throughout her high school career and beyond, with aspirations of attending Cornell University in New York alongside her sister, whom she visits often. She wants to pursue a career in psychology and explained the appeal of this subject, saying, “I like to see how things work out and find it interesting to understand things.”

Ambitious, energetic, and determined are three words that undoubtedly describe junior Sydney Fried. As she continues her academic career, these traits will be sure to serve her well, whether it is out on the lacrosse field or inside the classroom.
