Whether she is playing one of her many sports, completing loads of homework for her challenging classes, or starting a food drive, Los Gatos High School freshman Dani Borenstein is nothing short of spectacular.

Although it is her first year at LGHS, Borenstein is excelling academically. Her six classes include LEAD Biology, Spanish 2, LEAD English, Algebra 1, Multimedia Journalism, and PE. Referring to her multimedia class, Borenstein said, “I like the class, but I am not the best at using all of the technology.” Borenstein explained that her favorite class is English because “you get to be the most creative and expressive. Also, there is no right answer.” Describing her LEAD classes, Borenstein emphasized, “[LEAD] is basically like other classes, but if another class is given a test, we are given two projects instead. I really enjoy that. We have really long projects with a ton of different components, but all of the parts are spaced out, so I am never really stressed. I think this is why I like LEAD classes more.” Next year, Borenstein hopes to take Leadership and continue to challenge herself with her class load.

Recently, in her LEAD English class, Borenstein had the opportunity to create a project based on a goal from the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals list. She said, “I chose the second goal which was zero hunger. For this project, I had to write a research article and create a real-life project. I decided to create my own food bank for Jewish Family Services.” Many people donated money to this cause, allowing Borenstein to buy and donate kosher food. Borenstein commented, “This project made me feel good, but it also made me feel upset. I realized that I had never done anything before this. A lot of people also don’t realize that they should be doing stuff to help.”

Since Borenstein was little, she has been a huge fan of playing and watching sports, specifically the Golden State Warriors. This year, she played on the Freshman Volleyball team and JV Basketball team. Borenstein enjoys these sports the most because of the team environments, saying, “I really like that they are team sports. I’ve never played an individual sport before.” In volleyball, Borenstein plays setter, making her a key component to her team’s success. In basketball, she is a shooting guard.

During her rare free time, Borenstein can be found hanging out with her family or at Starbucks with a venti strawberry acai lemonade in her hand. Borenstein has two siblings, a younger sister in sixth grade named Erica and her older brother Ben Borenstein, who is a sophomore at LGHS.

As she has only begun her time at LGHS, Borenstein is sure to continue making her mark on the school and community here.
