Freshman Aldolfo Orendain is a multi-talented student who effortlessly transitions between scoring touchdowns on the football field and belting out notes for musicals. With a passion for both sports and the arts, Orendain showcases the intersection of athleticism and artistic flair.

In his first year of high school, Orendain decided to try acting and singing, first gaining an interest in musical theater when he saw his sister, Emilia Orendain, performing in previous LGHS productions. Orendain said, “She always filled the stage with a smile. That smile is what started to interest me to try acting and singing.” Although this is his first year acting or singing, he’s already found joy in participating in this year’s musical, Cinderella. When asked about his favorite part of rehearsals so far, Orendain said he “can’t decide,” but a favorite day for him would be “blocking the giant battle,” in which Orendain acts as a knight fighting against a giant.

Along with musical rehearsals, Orendain shares his musical talents in the school’s LeGatos Acapella Club. Although he enjoys singing, Orendain acknowledges that musical rehearsals are a big time commitment. Although he “wouldn’t mind doing the musical multiple times during other years,” he explained, “I normally have schedule issues between the musical and my other activities, but if I can find a working median, then for sure.”

The other activity he balances with musical theater is football; even now he attends off-season training for LGHS football. Football is another activity Orendain recently discovered a passion for. He stated, “I’m new to the sport. I started last season in summer. But it’s been an amazing experience that has brought me a lot of happiness and great friends.” Orendain also notes that his favorite part of football is “the exercise, the soul of the sport, and friends.” Orendain is confident in his passion for the sport and hopes to play all four years. When asked if he plans to continue football, Orendain said, “Yes I most definitely plan on playing for the JV football team next year and if I could, the whole four years would be my preference.”

As Orendain navigates his freshman year with a remarkable balance between football and musical theater, he continues to make time for his family and friends. He remains dedicated to his passions, while also managing his academics, poised to leave a lasting impact on LGHS.
