Back and better than ever, the Los Gatos Varsity Dance Team impressed all this past month with four brand-new football halftime routines and their performance at the fall Spirit Rally. Despite difficult time constraints, the team successfully produced multiple routines with ease. At the peak of their dance season, there’s no slowing down for these performers as the football team heads into playoff season.
Following their first performance at the football home opener, the team performed during the halftimes of the games Sept. 15, Sept. 29, Oct. 6, and Oct. 13. For the game on Oct. 6, they had less than one week’s notice of an extra home game. With additional practices as early as 6:30 AM, they persevered and presented a phenomenal routine. Co-captain Alyssa Webb spoke about the experience saying, “While it was a very stressful time, the experience made us closer as a team and we bonded at those early mornings. It also made us realize how talented our team is, when we put our minds to it we were able to produce a routine just as good as the rest.”

With remixes ranging from Beyonce’s PURE/HONEY and Black Eyed Peas Boom Boom Pow to Fire Burning by Sean Kingston and Lose My Breath by Destiny’s Child, the variety of music highlighted the versatility of the routines the team performed. Throughout these dances, the team showed off new tricks such as aerial lines, split drops, headsprings and firebirds. Captain Tatum Johnstone said, “So many of the dances were so good this year, but my favorite was definitely Fire Burning. I think the best thing in October is having pink laces to support breast cancer awareness for the whole month.” While perfecting the routines for football, they also practiced for another big dance event: the Spirit Rally.

On Oct. 6, LGHS Dance doubled up on performances with the midday Spirit Rally and the Homecoming football game. With a Drake-inspired performance, the team showed off their hip-hop training with songs such as Meltdown by Travis Scott ft. Drake, Jimmy Cooks by Drake ft. 21 Savage, The Motto by Drake and Lil Wayne, Barbie World by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, and No Friends in the Industry by Drake.

For the upcoming weeks, make sure to look out for the dance team, especially on the Nov. 3 game against Menlo-Atherton High School, which is Senior Night for the football team, dance team, cheer team, and marching band. Senior Taylor Ford looks forward to Senior Night, but explained, “I’ve been dancing with some of these girls since elementary school, and I’m so excited to spend my last football game with my best friends and celebrate my senior year!” While the team hopes for CCS, they’re sure to continuously wow the crowds with even more routines. Come support LGHS Dance on Nov. 3 and during the rest of the football season. Make sure to follow @losgatosdanceteam on Instagram and @lghsdanceteam on TikTok; let’s go Wildcats!
