Throughout the month of February, Los Gatos High School’s Track and Field teams were hard at work practicing for the upcoming season. The first meet of the season was a home meet at Helm Field held on Mar. 2. Teams competed against Lynbrook High School. Los Gatos’ Varsity Boys, Frosh/Soph Boys, and Junior Varsity Girls lost. On the bright side, the Girls’ Varsity team’s hard training and preparation paid off, with a win against Lynbrook. The original tally was 284-283, with a win for all Los Gatos teams, but due to an scoring error, the schools rescored the meet, and Lynbrook emerged as the winner.
The Girls’ Varsity Track Team scored eight points in the 1600-meter run thanks to sophomores Shea Elmore and Addison Lundstrom, who placed first and second, with times of 5:32 and 5:39, respectively. Los Gatos also earned eight points in the 3200-meter run, with senior Sophie Tau taking first with an 11:11 time, and sophomore Tatum Pyle taking second with her 13:02 time. The field team won nine points in the High Jump, with all Los Gatos team members making the leaderboard. Senior Abigail Lo took first, with junior Katie Steiner and freshman Bridget Moore taking second and third respectively.
Some of the standout runners from the Boys’ Varsity team were sophomore Aydon Stefanopoulos, senior Keaton Wong, and sophomore Ben Klarich, who led their team to victory and won nine points in the 800-meter run. Their times were 1:57, 2:03, and 2:05, respectively. Similarly, the varsity track team won first and second place in the Boys’ Triple Jump, thanks to senior Andrew Ellet and junior Kevin Wang, who had 38′ 0.5″ and 37′ 10″ marks. The final score was Lynbrook 66 and Los Gatos 56.
The Junior Varsity Girls won nine points in the 300-meter hurdles, taking the first three spots on the leaderboard. Freshman Evelyn Howard had a time of 58.66, Sophomore Faith Hatch had a time of 1:00, and freshman Lydia Chun‘s time was 1:01.82. The track team won five points when sophomore Amelia Williamson hit a 4′ 4″ mark as the only competitor in the JV high jump. Lynbrook won with a score of 53, while Los Gatos had 42 points.
The Frosh/Soph Boys lost by fourteen points, with a final score of 67 to 53. However, star runners included freshman Mehaan Sibal, whose time of 2:17 placed him first in the 800-meter run, and Ewan Bidmead, taking third with his 2:22 time. Sophomore Wesley Pitigoi and freshman Henry Murrett won eight points in the High Jump with their 5′ 0″ and 4′ 2″ marks.
