On Apr. 8 at 12:30 PM, fire officials rushed over to Vasona Park as a citizen reported a man swimming in Vasona Lake and unable to resurface. Once the fire department arrived, no one could locate the man. The sheriff’s dive team came soon after, and retrieved the man at around 1:30 PM. After removing the man from the lake, “lifesaving efforts were immediately administered,” stated the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department; however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office then took the body in for examination, where they identified the man as 57-year-old Michael Anthony Psomas. In addition, officials continue to investigate the reason behind this fatality, yet no new information has been released.

According to a county parks spokesperson, no drownings have occurred in Vasona since 2002, as no records before that are available.
