Early April was a hotbed for new music activity with endless amounts of funky jams and smooth beats to choose from. Beyonce released a new ballad, Die With You, on April 4, and Gorillaz made their new single, Let Me Out, public two days later.
Harry Styles showcased his first solo track since leaving One Direction, Sign of the Times, which was released on the 7th. DNCE’s single Kissing Strangers featuring Nicki Minaj came out on April 14, along with Lady Gaga’s new song, The Cure, on the 16th.
Although many singles were released this month, a number of chart-topping albums hit streaming services throughout the weeks of April. Old stars churned out long-awaited music, while new talents created radio hits and eclectic ballads.
Father John Misty displays his raw, intense songwriting in Pure Comedy, his April 7 album. On the same day, The Chainsmokers wowed the their fans with a new album, which includes their hit song Paris. In addition, Cold War Kids gave their latest compilation, L.A. Divine, to the public, with a below-average critic score.
On Fri. April 14, Kendrick Lamar released his hyped album, DAMN., which features the likes of Rihanna and U2 and basks in the high praise of critics and listeners. Riding the wave of well-deserved critical acclaim, Lamar held a surprise album signing at Compton’s Best Buy on April 20.
Bleachers gave a sample of their upcoming album a day later, featuring Carly Rae Jepsen’s vocals. In addition, Lana Del Rey and The Weeknd collaborated on Del Rey’s new song, Lust for Life, on the 19th.
To spice the new releases up, Nicki Minaj revealed the music video for her Remy Ma diss track, No Frauds. Although she faced backlash from shooting her video on Westminster Bridge after the terrorist attacks, she received mostly positive reviews.
In the future, Mac Demarco plans to release his new album on May 5, and Haim is set to share their sophomore album in late April.
