However, this time of year is also known as the season in which giving back and helping those in need becomes more common and more appreciated. Local organizations are accepting donations and offering volunteer opportunities for everyone interested in giving a helping hand this holiday season.
Family Supportive Housing provides services and temporary emergency housing to homeless families. The organization holds several holiday events that need volunteer staffers including their annual Christmas Shoppe, where families can pick out gifts for one another at no cost. Volunteers are needed for setting up the event and assisting families in picking the perfect present. Donations will also be accepted to serve as gifts. The Second Harvest Food Bank needs volunteers for their annual Turkey Trot 5k Run/Walk and 10k Run. The two races benefit several organizations including the Second Harvest Food Bank which provides holiday meals for the homeless and low-income families. There are several different positions available for volunteers, ensuring that everybody can help in some way. The Trot takes place on November 20, 25 and 26. Sign up today before spots run out.
CityTeam International helps thousands of people across the world. They are asking for donations such as frozen turkeys and nonperishable food items for the daily hot meals they serve.
