Welcome to the first-ever El Gato Hunger Games. Soon to be an annual tradition, this event inspires the hearts of our town’s residents and energizes the journalistic community as it chronicles the fight for the top spot among the many sections of El Gato. Separated across four districts, representatives from each team will tell us why they think their group will win. This year, the pageantry particularly grand, with each district dressing themselves in an abundance of color as a way to single out their styles and techniques. But do not be fooled by fun colors and flair, because the competition is fierce! Good luck to each district in their fight toward victory and may the odds be ever in your favor.

District One will certainly come out on top; our breaking news and information-gathering abilities will crush the competition. Between the pages of local, national, and world, we have the most experience in unearthing stories at record times and gathering accurate, reliable information as the clock ticks down. Our writers from local know every corner, alley, and event that occurs in Los Gatos. Our National and World editors are adept at finding information and resources from the most reliable sources. Our knowledge and determination in new situations will help us produce the best articles and win this competition. District One does not need to worry, as with our consistent investigative work, we will definitely win this competition.
— Noah Gloege, World Editor
Legend Effie Trinket once said, “May the odds be ever in your favor!” District two, with its creative Games section, thought-provoking editorial, and persuasive opinions have the traits to take down all the other districts. Basic booby traps do not make the cut anymore, which is why competitors need ingenious ambushes only someone with the creativity of a Games creator could design. Additionally, the Editorial section embodies a strong leader with the communication and collaborative skills that will guide our district as one cohesive unit. Lastly, the Opinion section, constantly working to prove themselves, will stop at nothing to finish what they start. District two does not need hope, with our invaluable assets, the odds are already in our favor.

I can’t believe the other districts think they stand a chance. Humor and Culture editors might be the most skilled people on the paper. Every press week, they battle with graphics, go hand-to-hand with frustrating formatting errors, and deal with four different versions of the phrase, “Spoilers ahead.” Humor editors are by far the funniest people on the paper; they will easily gain sponsors and make alliances (whom they will, of course, betray later). Culture editors are silent warriors; let your guard down once, and suddenly all your personal information somehow has traveled to every tribute, including news of that weird rash on your back. I wish everyone else luck, because they stand no chance against us.
— Siyona Singhal, Humor Editor
There’s no question that District four is winning these games. Think about it: the Sports editors are going to be faster and stronger than everybody else. They understand pressure and conflict, as they have experienced covering high-stakes stories monthly. Furthermore, the People editors know how to expertly manipulate the other teams, harnessing their social skills. Together, the Sports and People sections provide the perfect combination of strength, intelligence, and charisma. In the end, this won’t be close, as this district will rise above the rest and tower over the competition.
