On Feb. 19, the long awaited return of Netflix’s The Night Agent made its debut, coming out with ten new episodes for its third season.

The show continues to follow government worker Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), and his trials and tribulations as a Night Agent. In season one, Sutherland uncovers a series of lies and traitors in the White House, discovering a plan to assassinate the President, formulated by her very own Vice President. In the show’s second season, Sutherland investigates a CIA agent accused of selling state secrets. After his partner is killed and no one in the White House seems concerned about a mole in the Night Agent program, he goes off the grid to try to find the truth himself. His search takes him to New York City, where he becomes entangled with intelligence broker Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum), who forces Sutherland to act as his inside man. The ordeal ends with Sutherland and his team stopping a chemical weapon attack on New York City.

Season three begins with the White House sending Sutherland to Istanbul to track down Jay Batra (Suraj Sharma), a financial analyst accused of killing his boss. After his arrival, Sutherland realizes that he is not the only one looking for Batra; financial journalist Isabel De Leon (Genesis Rodriguez), along with hitmen attempting to assassinate Batra were also in Istanbul. Sutherland speaks with De Leon and Batra, figuring out that they are working together to investigate a conspiracy involving a terrorist-funding money laundering ring, following a catastrophic plane crash that killed 157 Americans.

Past characters like Chelsea Arrington (Fola Evans-Akingbola), a secret service agent, Catherine Weaver (Amanda Warren), a head agent in the Night Agent program, and Richard Hagan (Ward Horton), the recently appointed President of the United States, have significant roles in the new episodes. Although fans have enjoyed the new season, one notable character is missing: Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan). Larkin was Sutherland’s love interest and unofficial partner throughout seasons one and two, but was nowhere to be seen in season three. Though she had a fairly clear exit at the end of season two, saying she was going to move back to California while Sutherland continued to work as a Night Agent, many viewers remained hopeful that she would appear in season three.

The season follows Sutherland and De Leon as they work to uncover the truth behind the terrorist attack, leading them to discover that the secrets and corruption run much deeper than they initially anticipated. Season three also introduces an alternate storyline, following a father-son duo and their role in the scheme.

While the new season has been relatively well-received, with critics saying that the show’s pacing issues from past seasons are not a problem in the new season, viewership for season three has dropped 40% compared to season two. But do not let that number fool you; season three is action-packed, and the show remains one of Netflix’s staple thrillers.
