Senior Michael Hein has made the most out of his four years at Los Gatos High School. With a record of impressive grades and a strong commitment to his passions, Hein has embraced every chance to excel in school. During his time at LG, Hein has formed lasting friendships with his classmates and his sports team that have contributed to his high school experience. Whether competing with the tennis team, engaging in extracurriculars and clubs, or simply enjoying day-to-day life with his friends, Hein has created memories and learned lessons that will stay with him during the next chapters of his life.
Hein is looking forward to attending the University of Southern California this fall. Upon starting the school year, he intends on joining new clubs and groups to continue exercising passions he discovered in high school. Hein plans on majoring in human development and aging, and is planning on continuing into medical school after graduating. Hein’s close relationship with his parents, who are both doctors, motivated him to follow the pre-med path. After doing internships at his parents’ office and researching classes at USC, Hein decided to pursue a career in medicine, specifically targeting internal medicine when he is older. Reflecting on what he learned during his internships, Hein said, “I learned a lot at my parents’ office shadowing the assistants, taking blood pressure, and observing how everything works in a medical environment.” When asked how this experience motivated him to pursue medicine, Hein shared, “The interactions with the patients after helping them was the best part. That definitely convinced me that following the pre-med path was the right choice.”
At LGHS, Hein has a heavy course load with AP Literature, AP Government and Honors Economics, AP Biology, and Introduction to Music Theory. Alongside these, Hein is enrolled at West Valley Community College, where he is taking Statistics. He also plays a key role on the varsity boys’ tennis team. You can often see Hein sporting a jacket he designed himself, featuring LGHS’s mascot and his name on the back. The jacket also displayed two stars on the front, a white star earned last year after winning doubles in the varsity league championship and an orange star for being varsity’s most valuable player during Hein’s junior year. He also added three tennis rackets, demonstrating his three years of being on the varsity team. At the end of this season, Hein will add a fourth and final racket.
Hein also dabbles in music, playing the electric guitar. He began playing alongside his friend and would often spend time in the garage outside playing together. Hein enjoys dedicating his time to the community, involving himself in Boys Team Charity since sixth grade. His favorite spots to volunteer are House of Hope and Sacred Heart.
From dedicating his time to music, medicine, volunteering, and school, Hein has had a lot on his plate for the past four years. Despite his packed schedule, he continues to work with passion and commitment, ensuring a very bright future.
