The phrase “retro pop” completely encompasses the new Swedish pop star in the making Nova Miller. Her new single, Do It Myself, is a certified bop, and I can already see myself blasting this song with the windows down this summer. Everything from the stunning guitar strumming to her beautiful voice makes this song a hit. It has been added to pretty much every single one of my playlists, not to mention the number of times I have put it on repeat. Not only does this song sound beautiful, but it also has relatable lyrics, as she sings about how she doesn’t need a boy to drive her crazy, she can do it herself. As a chronic overthinker this is possibly one of the most relatable songs I have had the pleasure of listening to.
The music video follows what I want my life to look like when I am in my twenties. It is a 1960’s masterpiece. The video follows her journey to a 1965 nightclub, and it is easily one of the most aesthetically pleasing music videos I have seen. Her hair through the video is basically everything I aspire to have. She rocks Cher’s iconic locks and a beautiful Brigitte Bardot-inspired bouffant. If you want to be transported to another realm, watch the video. It perfectly matches the vibe of the song, and I can’t reiterate enough how much I am obsessed with both.
Miller has been involved in music since she was a little girl. She used to sleep in her father’s guitar case when he was on tour, and she was discovered by a music executive in Stockholm at the mere age of twelve. She has an impressive five-octave range, and can play multiple instruments, including the violin and the piano. Do It Myself is her ninth release, and she is currently working on releasing new music in the near future. I can’t wait to see what Miller releases next.
